homesteaded in 1917

The Cabin at Stickney Creek is a rustic, spirited lodge located on 900 acres of private land in the Big Belt Mountains. Bordering another 1200 acres of BLM forest, this Central Montana retreat is the perfect place for a true nature experience.

Each autumn for the past 70 years, “The Cabin” has been home to Parsons Outfitting, a guided elk and deer hunting operation owned and managed by the Parsons Family. For more on hunting as conservation, please see this article by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

In 2018, granddaughter Kate Parsons began working to create Spring and Summer programs that focus on sustainability, creativity, and self-sufficiency. From wilderness survival workshops to permaculture design, our goals are to educate and engage new audiences, while respecting the values of those who came before us.

The Hunting Operation

In 1950, Rupert and Jean Parsons began using the homestead as a hunting lodge. Logging roads in the backcountry had yet to be built, so all guiding took place on horseback. Years later, the business would grow significantly, and would attract clientele from around the U.S., including Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell.

Parsons Outfitting is still in operation every fall, run by Rupert and Jean’s son, Stephen Parsons.

The Present

In 2020, we have opted to soft-launch our new initiatives due to the unanticipated global changes that have happened this year. We are eminently excited about our new programs and have relevant precautions in place to account for social distancing directives. We have big plans in store for the next few years and we hope you’ll join us along the way. From more diverse offerings to larger accommodations and longer stays, we invite you to grow with us.

We look forward to your visit.
